You just listed a bunch of RTSs with a campaign, yes the campaign needs a story, but even then, games like AoE 2 rely a lot less on their campaign. but if they want this to be a good game, it needs the story. If the devs don't care if this ends up a meh game that dead ends quickly, then a story isn't' necessary, and they will get a niche group of core players who just don't care. Command and Conquer, Warcraft II, Dune, etc. While I completely understand your request for a greater goal, keep in mind that the game is still in EA and the devs most likely have other stuff higher on the todo-list than writing (and hiding) deeper lore for the game and doing changes for the endgame.Īll the best games have a real story behind them.
